How it works

Everything Take Your Skills does, and why it helps

Take Your Skills brings together the recommendations written by the people you've worked with, on a profile in your name. And when a colleague leaves, the whole team can give them some with the Leaving Pack. Free, with no ads.

Your recommendations, on a profile in your name

Your recommendation profile

A CV says what you've done. Recommendations say how you did it, from the people who saw you at work, and they stay in your name whoever you work for.

  • A public profile in your name, with your recommendations and your professional portrait, open to anyone, no account needed.
  • You decide what's shown: each recommendation can be public or private.
  • A link or a PDF to send with a job application, a quote or a proposal.

Getting recommendations

A single link is all it takes: you send it, and the person is guided all the way through. Our guide to asking for a reference has messages you can copy.

  • Ask for a recommendation: the button on your profile gives you a link to send by email or message.
  • Get recommended before you've signed up: someone can recommend you with just your email address, and you claim your profile afterwards.
  • Several email addresses on one account: personal and work. If you leave your job, you don't lose a thing.

Writing a recommendation

What makes a recommendation useful is real examples: a project rescued, a client won over. The assistant helps you remember them.

  • An assistant so you never start from a blank page: it asks you a few questions, then suggests a text you read through before publishing. You can also write without it.
  • Recommendations are always positive: anything critical you mention in the conversation never makes it into the text.
  • Translation on request, in one click, clearly marked as translated.

Your professional portrait

A few lines on what your colleagues mention most and what sets you apart: for a busy recruiter, and to help you find the words in an interview.

  • Written by AI from your public recommendations only, in English and French, and updated with every new recommendation.
  • You stay in control: you can regenerate it a few times a month and go back to an earlier version.

Your network and your data

You decide what you share, and you can leave whenever you like.

  • A news feed: recommendations, Leaving Packs and personality tests from your network.
  • Sign in with a code sent by email, no password, in English or French.
  • Database hosted in the European Union: the privacy policy lists our providers.
  • Delete your account yourself, at any time, from your settings.

Frequently asked questions

Is Take Your Skills free?

Yes, for everyone: you, the people who recommend you, and any team putting together a Leaving Pack. No ads.

Can the team chip in for a gift too?

Yes. The organiser turns on the Leaving Pack's money pot: colleagues suggest gift ideas, vote for a favourite and chip in through the online collection the organiser links to. Take Your Skills never handles the money.

What's the point of recommendations if I already have a CV?

Your CV lists your jobs; recommendations describe how you worked, with examples, from people who saw you do it.

Does the person leaving need an account?

No. If they don't have a profile yet, one is created when you hand over the pack, and they get all their recommendations by email.

Do I need an account to write a recommendation?

Yes. You create one with your email address and a code sent to it, with no password.

Who can see my recommendations?

Anyone can see the ones you keep public on your profile. The ones you make private are visible only to you.

Can I edit a recommendation after publishing it?

No, so read it through before you publish: the assistant lets you edit the text as much as you like until then.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, yourself, from your settings. Recommendations you've received are deleted; the ones you've written stay, credited to a deleted user.

Your colleagues know your work. Let them say so.

Create your profile, then send your link to the people you've worked with. It's free.
